Local Studies Closure

You may have heard of the proposal to move our Local Studies and Archives from Central Library in Bexleyheath to the middle of Bromley.

Many local people are upset with this proposal.

Penny’s email to the Forum outlines what local people can do to help prevent it.

Good morning

Regarding Bexley Council's proposal to close Bexley Local Studies and Archive Centre, we now have an online petition, so please do sign it and tell everyone you know. It is quick and easy and can be found at https://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/bexley-council-don-t-move-bexley-local-studies-and-archives-out-of-bexley

There is also a paper petition for handwritten signatures. If you think you might be able to get some signatures from people you know, I can send you copies.

The key thing now is to raise awareness as much as possible. If you have contacts with local schools, please use them.

And don't forget to also use the Bexley Council survey which is on the right hand side of the page at http://www.bexley.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=16835. Paper copies of the budget information and the survey are also available from Council Offices and Libraries. Write to councillors and MPs. The Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Leisure (who has responsibility for the library and archive service) is Cllr Don Massey. You should also write to the Council Member for the Ward where you live. You can write to them at Civic Offices, Broadway, Bexleyheath, Kent DA6 7LB.

Join Facebook Group 'Save Bexley Archives' and follow on Twitter @SaveBexArchives. You can also keep up with the issue at http://www.bexleyhistoricalsociety.co.uk/

With best wishes

Penny Duggan

(Secretary, Bexley Historical Society)
